Don't know the current pricing but should be well South of the budget. JayaRaa Active Member. Musical Fidelity M5Si, eyes closed. Will drive the 's effortlessly.

To accommodate the additional active equalizer hardware, the stereo receiver used to drive the s requires an open connection between the preamplifier output and the amplifier input.

The connectors are a pair of standard audio RCA type of female sockets labeled "Preamp out" above a pair of standard audio RCA type of female sockets labeled "Amp input.

The stereo receiver used to drive the s should have a minimum of watts RMS per channel output. This is especially important among the earlier series l, ll and lll. Bose amplifier suggestions. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to these things. I just came across a free pair of bose series II with the EQ, and a pair of bose s. I just had the s refoamed and refurbished.

I have a receiver to hook these up to surround sound, and currently have the s hooked up as front left and right and the s hooked up as rear left and right. My receiver doesn't come with a tape loop so I can't hook up the EQ at this time I don't believe. I know there's a way to do so, but I'd need an external amplifier according to some very old posts I've read around the internet. And nothing exactly matching my current setup, so I'm turning to this forum.

My questions are as follows. The Onkyo seems to power everything, do I really need an amplifier? What amplifier should I get to power the s if it's needed? Believe it or not, my older brother who got me into high end gear I owned 's for about a year in the 70's.

Traded them in towards my Dahlquist DQ's. Alberto, it's great to know you've come to this wonderful realization. I still have this setup upstairs - more for decoration these days, but it still works. Bought it new in and at the time it sure felt like a high end system late on a Saturday night Get rid of my Crown and s? Tha Dalhquist was a revelation at the time, even if it cloned the appearance of the Quad.

He made serious strides in the early 70's. The only problem- the 'trolley' ran by his store on Smithfield St. I agree. I saw a lot of different speakers come and go in my homes from the late 70's 'till but the DQ's stayed in one of my systems. I even had them shipped to Belgium when we lived there for a couple of years. They were far from perfect but they sure beat the hell out of most everything else out there. They paired very nicely with my GAS Ampzlilla. Phase Linear of course! Thanks, Water cooled ala Fleetwood Mac's?

Greatest April Fools new thread. Then when I saw others said April fools I was worried it was still true and Alberto would be offended. So I wa gullible twice! We have imprisoned him in an 8x8x8 room, perfect for standing room waves. As my tag suggests, I don't take it as seriously as some, but that doesn't mean I want just anything in my apartment, certainly not now that I've had a taste of higher-end sound.

If I were starting from scratch, and those were the speakers I had mind you, I've never heard them , I'd probably just go look for a strong-armed receiver or integrated and be done with it. Perhaps a Marantz. I believed it percent at first. So I was gullible twice! Kind of you to be honest enough to tell us the truth. That's funny stuff.

Great thread. It was pretty ordinary. This one has a Harman Kardon Logic 7 And as the sun set on April 1st, Alberto returned to his normal state of Shindo-itis. So, I decided that larger and more expensive speakers would better impress my friends, so I went a little backwards and downhill in sound, and bought a pair of Magneplanar Magnepan Tympani 1-U's.

Not quite as good sounding as the Bose, but a mite more impressive to look at. And, now, I could brag a bit about how much they cost me! Thank you Bose for raising the price of your speakers enough that they now better fit the mold of "expensive is better". Perhaps a Bose forum. Do they still make that? My first encounter with the Bose 's was the Series III bought together with the Bose Spatial Control Receiver - watts per channel and with a "special" build in EQ that will control the dispersion of the rear 8 speakers.

All one need to do is touch the "BOSE" logo and the receiver is powered on. Bose do invest in technology - the only thing I don't understand is why they had not continue to do better - which I strongly believe with their huge financial resource, will surely be able to make an impact in the high end audio.

Thanks a bunch as usual, Alberto I agree with you completely. I've tried every speaker and every amplifier. I've come back to the Bose I love the big, high dynamic range sound. I don't buy stuff for other people. I buy it for my pleasure. I also use only digital well mastered CD's or iTunes files. I use an Emotiva Stealth preamp. Awesome sound.
